Charity Partner - Open Science Network
Open Science Network (OSN) Society has the goal of bringing science to the people. We accomplish this simple to state, but difficult to achieve, goals through diverse activities including participating in and hosting science outreach events, as well as mentoring secondary students and adults at its community science lab. Founded in June 2015, the organization provides opportunities for people of all ages, backgrounds, and genders to learn more about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). OSN aims to inspire and support those interested in STEM careers and nurture citizens so they can critically assess information about important matters such as climate change, health, transportation, and food security. The community lab also lowers the barriers to people developing ideas as bio-entrepreneurs.
OSN’s signature outreach event is the STEM Mentoring Cafe, organized by its vice president, Wes Wong. The cafes connect middle school students with STEM professionals to inspire and encourage students to pursue their STEM interests as they enter high school. OSN has run all-girls cafes and will be participating in the upcoming Girls and STEAM event at Science World on November 2. Its cafe has impacted over 500 students to date.
